Build Back Better: Reducing Vulnerabilities,

Strengthening Justice

The Global Conference “Build Back Better: Reducing Vulnerabilities, Strengthening Justice” is going to be held on 12 th – 15 th November 2020 through Zoom Platform. All times listed are Eastern Standard Time. New York City

ASAP is an international interdisciplinary academic network aiming to enhance the impact of scholars, teachers and students on global poverty. This event will gather experts’ contributions to the following subjects:


(i) COVID-19 and its unequal impacts;

(ii) Environmental Crisis;

(iii) Historical Oppression, Colonialism, & Racism Today;

(iv) Social & Economic Vulnerabilities, Universal Safety Net & Basic

Income, Right to Development & Sustainable Development Goals

(UN).

Build Back Better: Reducing vulnerabilities, strengthening justice, is an international event coordinated by the Mackenzie Presbyterian University, Yale University e Quinnipiac University, Academics Stand Against Poverty – ASAP Global, with financial support by CAPES and MackPesquisa, promoted under the activities of the Internalization Project UPM CAPES-PrInt: “Social Inclusion, public policies and governance to reduce inequalities”, with the institutional aid of Postgraduate Program in Political and Economic Law.

CLARICE SEIXAS DUARTE

PhD | Mackenzie Presbyterian University

Clarice Seixas Duarte is a Brazilian Law Professor in the Postgraduate Program in Political and Economic Law (PPGDPE) at Mackenzie Presbyerian University. She holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy and General Theory of Law from the Faculty of Law, University of São Paulo (2003).


She is a representative in Brazil of the International Platform "Academics Stand Against Poverty" (ASAP), where she acts as the scientific coordinator of the right to education nucleus. His research covers the theme of human rights, with special emphasis on the realization of social rights to education and health and the study of public policies.


Currently, she leads a research group that focuses on the role of public policies in reducing social inequalities while also coordinating a postgraduate internationalization project, which is financed by CAPES – Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education. The project is called “Social inclusion, public policies, and governance to reduce inequalities”, and it aims to study mechanisms to fight social disparities

THOMAS POGGE

PhD | Yale

Thomas Winfried Menko Pogge is a German philosopher and is the Director of the Global Justice Program and Leitner Professor of Philosophy and International Affairs at Yale University. In addition to his Yale appointment, he is the Research Director of the Centre for the Study of the Mind in Nature at the University of Oslo, a Professor of Philosophy and Global Justice at the Law School of King’s College London and Professor of Political Philosophy at the University of Central Lancashire’s Centre for Professional Ethics.


Pogge is also an editor for social and political philosophy for the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy and a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. Pogge received his Ph.D. from Harvard University with a dissertation supervised by John Rawls. Since then he has published widely on Kant and in moral and political philosophy, including various books on John Rawls and global justice.

ANAT BILETZKI

PhD | Quinnipiac University (Connecticut, USA)

Anat Biletzki is the Albert Schweitzer Professor of Philosophy at Quinnipiac University (Connecticut, USA) and Professor of Philosophy at Tel Aviv University. She teaches and researches human rights, political thought, analytic philosophy, and digital culture. Her publications include Talking Wolves: Thomas Hobbes on the Language of Politics and the Politics of Language and (Over) Interpreting Wittgenstein.

She has also travelled widely as a visiting scholar/professor at Cambridge University, Harvard University, the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, Bergen University, Boston University, MIT, and the National Humanities Center. Outside academia, Biletzki has been active in the peace movement and in human rights in Israel-Palestine: she served as chairperson of B’Tselem - the Israeli Information center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories (2001-2006) and was nominated among the “1000 Women for the Nobel Peace Prize 2005”.

DANIELE BOTTI

PhD | Quinnipiac University and Department of Philosophy at Fairfield University

Daniele Botti is adjunct professor in the Department of Philosophy and Political Science at Quinnipiac University and in the Department of Philosophy at Fairfield University. He graduated from the University of Milan (Italy) with a thesis on “John Rawls and International Justice: The Law of Peoples and its Philosophical Premises.” He earned a PhD in History from the University of Eastern Piedmont (Italy) with a dissertation on “John Rawls and the American philosophical Tradition: Notes on a recent Finding among Rawls’s unpublished Papers.”

Daniele spent two years (2010 and 2011) as Visiting Assistant in Research of the Global Justice Program at Yale University. He has been living in New Haven, CT since January 2010.

SUJATA GADKAR-WILCOX

JD | Quinnipiac University

Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox is assistant professor of legal studies at Quinnipiac University. Bachelor of Arts with distinction (2001) by the Cornell University and Juris Doctor (2005) by the University of Pennsylvania Law School, she is responsible for teaching Comparative Constitucional Law, Constitucional Law, Human Rights Law and Global Justice, International Law, Introduction to Law, Trial Techniques, and a Capstone Legal Studies Seminar. Established and currently serve as diretor of the Quinnipac University Mock Trial Program.
